Tamlyn Botha – Jewellery Designer – Druten
Welcome! I’m Tamlyn, a jewellery designer (and goldsmith) based in Druten in the Netherlands. I have an incredible amount of passion for what I do! It’s not just the creativity, art, craft, and business side that gets me going, but it’s especially the people (yes you!) that put a smile on my face every day. When creating a custom piece, there’s a part of you in it, so I make it my mission to dream up a concept with you and guide or update you through the whole process while I make your special treasure. Or if you need advice on how to accessorise an outfit, I’m here for you!
Don’t take my word for it! Here are some customer review snippets from Google.
I strive to use recycled and reclaimed materials as much as I can in my work, from the metals I use to the gemstones I source.
My passion can be so explosive that I just need to share it with everyone I can, so I also offer individual and group workshops where you can make your very own piece. For businesses, I offer workshops (with my lovely work partner) that help to stimulate creativity in the workplace and as well as at home.
Here you can have a sneak peek into some of my past projects or visit my workshop website to see what participants have made. You can also find me on Facebook and Instagram or send me a message here.
How it began
My love for jewellery began when I was a little girl sitting on my grandmother’s bed admiring all her beautiful sparkling gems in an antique jewellery box. But my journey toward becoming a goldsmith was quite an unexpected one. I’ve always considered myself a creative person and dabbled in all sorts of projects from photography, arts and crafts, video editing and producing, digital media, woodworking, metal clay and finally goldsmithing. And now I’m here to stay!
After moving to the Netherlands I became interested in abstract art. I was fascinated with the small details in the canvas and wondered if there was a way I could isolate and enhance those areas so I decided to cut the parts out and encase them in a jewellery setting, cover them with glass cabochons and set them in rings, earrings and pendants. About a year later I tried taking my jewellery a step further where I could have more control over the bezel and setting designs. I then turned to metal clay and enjoyed working with ‘metal’ so much that I needed more! I joined a three-month goldsmithing course and enjoyed it so much that I extended it for another three months. At that point, I was completely hooked! I decided that I wanted to learn everything from the ground up and enrolled in a four-year branch-recognised study at Vakschool Schoonhoven. Since then, my passion has grown exponentially and I have my own jewellery website and workshop website!
